Brian Hanlon - Master Sculptor and Runner - Episode 26
“You Have To Have A Process. We Always Must Respect ‘Process’.” Master Sculptor and Masters Runner Brian Hanlon
In life, in athletics, in training, in health, in raising children and, as told by Master Sculptor Brian Hanlon, in sculpting amazing statues and making art; these words hold true.
In Episode 26, The Two Fit Crazies sit down with world renown sculptor Brian Hanlon of Hanlon Sculpture Studio to discuss his amazing “one in a billion” career in the art world, his lifelong passion for sports, running, athletics and that space where the influences of each overlap.
Mr. Hanlon discusses the influential role that running, exercise and fitness plays in maintaining his “spiritual fitness”, an all important piece to his life and work and something that he sees in some of the greatest coaches of our time as well.
In addition, we tap into his amazing running career that began as an unruly high school harrier and led becoming a late arrival and captain of Division 1 Monmouth University, on up to the upcoming USATF Indoor Masters 3000 meter Championships.
And of course, there’s his amazing professional portfolio which includes over 500 sculptures scattered throughout the country on college campuses, stadiums, arenas, parks, plazas and places of interest. There’s a story behind each creation, of which he casts in bronze. From Jackie Robinson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neill, Jerry Tarkanian, Evander Holyfield, Yogi Berra and Ms. America to his work with the Rose Bowl, New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, Syracuse University and his role as the Official Master Sculpture for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The list (and stories) goes on and on!
He is a special guy and it’s fair to say that Brian Hanlon can spin a yarn. We hope that you enjoy this as much as we did.
