Christine’s Boston Marathon Recap - Episode 244

Episode 244 - Christine’s Boston Marathon Recap

“There is nothing like being in Boston during marathon weekend!”

-Brian Prendergast

“In-person races are back! Boston was my first big race since the pandemic, and I felt at ease with all of the new safety protocols and social distancing guidelines in place.”

-Christine Conti

Get ready for the hottest post-pandemic marathon news straight from the mouth of one Fit Crazie! Listen up as Christine recaps her experience running the 125th Boston Marathon and first big in-person event since the world went virtual. After an almost two year long hiatus from live events, the city of Boston did not disappoint. “The fans came out in droves, the Wellesley College girls were still screaming, and the Boston College students were as drunk and sloppy as ever once you got to Heartbreak Hill.” In this episode, Christine will walk you through what to expect before booking your next airline flights, riding public transportation, and navigating through large groups of people without feeling the least bit concerned or anxious. Hear about the new processes now in place for major races to be held around the globe but be sure you don’t forget your vaccination card or your negative Covid test results before picking up race bibs! As for Boston, while Christine discusses how strange it was to run this historic race in October with a 40% decrease in runners to allow for social distancing, there is still nothing like the Boston Marathon. If you are a runner, a running spouse, or simply just a fitness fanatic, put this on your bucket list! Be Boston Strong!

Dr. John Connors Podiatric Sports Medicine, NJ/NYC

“In order to fix people, I had to get into their head...understand the whole picture.” - Dr. John Connors

In Episode 167, the Two Fit Crazies were on location in Little Silver, New Jersey and surrounded by life-sized murals and pictures of the world-class athletes who owe a great deal of their success to Dr. John Connors DPM and Dr Kathleen Trotter DPM. Dr. Connors, a world-renowned sports podiatrist, discusses how his love for “fixing” people led him to be considered one of the most coveted medical providers to elite athletes including both professional and Olympic runners. Along with Dr. Trotter, who happens to be an 8x All-American and 2x National Champion runner at Stanford University, this dynamic duo takes great pride in their ability to get their athletes back on track, no pun intended, as quickly as possible. Dr. Connors and Dr. Trotter discusses the latest treatments and procedures from stem cell and plasma injections, to shockwave therapy, to fascia tissue surgeries that have proven to get elite runners back to their best in 30 days. Be sure to check out some of the testimonials from Jon Bon Jovi, Christie Rampone, Lineth Chepkurui, Leonel “Leo” Manzano and more! Included in our conversation are a few of Dr. Connors’ top vignettes from his seemingly endless catalogue of stories from helping the worlds greatest runners get back on their feet, literally and figuratively. There is a reason Dr. Connors and Dr Trotter are known as the best in the biz when it comes to “fixing people”!

Episode 149 - David Caldarella - David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation

“This became my purpose; I wanted to help people!” - David Caldarella

In Episode 149, the Two Fit Crazies were honored to sit down with David Caldarella, CEO & Co-Founder of David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation. David shares his amazing story starting when he was first diagnosed with stage four head and neck cancer over ten years ago to what he went through both physically and mentally while undergoing intense rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and various surgeries. Thinking that “this was it,” David created the Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds to provide financial assistance, wellness services and HOPE to New Jersey families affected by a cancer diagnosis. For David, this would be his legacy after he was no longer with us. Today, David is ten years removed from his diagnosis and remains cancer-free! Listen closely as David discusses the importance of serving as a “beacon of hope” for patients and families as the foundation has now helped over 1,700 families and raised over 1.1 million dollars. Next on the agenda, David is planning community fundraising events, increasing business partnerships, and sponsoring athletes to raise funds on behalf of “TEAM DREAM!” In fact, look out for Two Fit Crazies at the Boston Marathon this April September running on behalf of David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation! Roberta Groner - World Class Runner/Full Time Nurse/Mother of Three - Episode 96

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone Podcast

Episode 96 – Roberta Groner – World Class Runner – Full Time Nurse – Mother of 3

In Episode 96 the Fit Crazies have the honor of rapping with the ridiculously fast and remarkably humble Super Mom, Roberta Groner, age 41, of Randolph, NJ. Literally, just 2 hours off the plane home, Roberta gives us the low down on her phenomenal, news making 2:29:06, 5th place performance against a world class field at the Rotterdam Marathon.

To put it simply, Roberta has a story for the ages. After competitive high school and, albeit shortened, collegiate careers, running went away. Roberta spent the next decade building her career in nursing and starting a family. But a flame was rekindled after joining some office cohorts and running the Pittsburg Half Marathon just 10 years ago. This led to a marathon in Chicago and an impressive 3-hour 12-minute (3:12) debut. But she was just getting started, a Sub 3 hour run in her second marathon was followed by races in the 2:40’s and then a true burst onto the scene with her 2:37 victory at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in 2016. Just Flying!!!!

All of this, along with a 2:30:38, 3rd place finish at the California International Marathon in 2017 has stamped Roberta’s place among the nation’s and world’s elites.

In fact, we’d bet that if the 41-year-old, full time nurse, divorced mother of three had rubbed a lamp and was granted running wishes, Roberta probably would have sold herself short in what she wished for.

What’s it like to run a 2:29 and an IAAF/Olympic Standard?

At 41 years of age, while still working full time and a divorced mother of three, how does she fit it all in?

What are the differences in training blocks as she continues to grow as a runner?

What is it like working with a new coach in Steve Magness?

Do her boys know how cool their mom is?

What are her nutrition and recovery routines like?

What is her advice for and/or secret to success?

And most importantly; What’s Next???? #KFG

Whatever your role in athletics or fitness or life, Roberta’s story is not to be missed!

Get Your Inspiration Here, In Episode 96!

Let’s Roll!

Bart Yasso - The Mayor of Running - Episode 81

Two Fit Crazies and a Microphone

Episode 81 – Bart Yasso - The Mayor of Running

“Never limit where running can take you.” Bart Yasso

In Episode 81, the Two Fit Crazies had the honor of speaking with the great Bart Yasso. Affectionately known as the “Mayor of Running”, Bart goes deep into his journey and life in running. Recently retired after 21 years at Runner’s World where he held the title of Chief Running Officer, Bart takes us from his first run in “cutoff jeans and a Budweiser t-shirt” to the “world’s toughest footrace” through Death Valley to a 5k in a nudist colony. And an interview with Bart would never be complete without getting the lowdown on the famous workout created by and named for him – the Yasso 800s, stating that “There isn’t a day that someone doesn’t mention Yasso 800’s.”

Bart is an incredibly genuine person with a passion for running and life. It felt like we were old friends catching up after some time apart. An inspiration to all that cross his path, we hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we did.

Yours in Fitness (and running),
