“...find meaning and purpose in your work in order to find it fulfilling.”  -Andrew Gavigan

In Episode 111, the Two Fit Crazies welcome the amazing Andrew Gavigan to the podcast! Coming to us from just outside of Los Angeles, Andrew reveals how his  experience touring the U.S. with his band, living out of his car, and smoking packs of  cigarettes eventually lead him to stumble upon Capoeira, a form of martial arts that  inspired him to quit smoking, drop weight, create his own fitness company, host a  podcast, and more! Andrew talks about his journey to become a personal trainer so he could help others get healthy and live more fulfilling lives beyond the walls of the gym. Andrew, now in his thirties, is currently a fitness educator for top fitness conventions in the country while he is also pursuing his BS in Psychology with a minor in Economics. Andrew is determined to bring Behavior Economics into the forefront of the health and fitness industry and Brian and Christine “geeked out” with Andrew about how to better incentivize company leaders and employees to embrace corporate wellness and improve employee experience! In Episode 110, the Two Fit Crazies welcomed back Dr. Jason Karp to the show for the third time! Obviously, the Fit Crazies love speaking with the incredibly intelligent Dr. Karp about the latest developments in exercise science to improve all aspects of running. This time, Dr. Karp speaks about his newest endeavors such as: enrolling in  an MBO program at San Diego State, coaching an elite team of Rev02lution Running  athletes from around the globe, writing another book about how physical activity,  specifically running, affects sexual behavior, and creating a Run-Fit Kenyan running  camp after his experience training at the High Altitude Training Camp in Iten, Kenya.  Needless to say, whether you are an avid runner or just looking for ways to improve your health and fitness through walking or running, Dr. Jason Karp dishes out all the science about how running WILL improve your life. Sheera Goren, Co-Founder & CEO of Zygo - Episode 109

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone

Episode 109 - Sheera Goren, Co-Founder & CEO of ZYGO

“...be SWIMSPIRED!”

“...I wanted to create the Peloton of swimming!”

“...we are dealing with a passionate population.”  -Sheera Goren

In Episode 109, the Two Fit Crazies are WOWED by Sheera Goren, the co-founder and CEO of Zygo, the first wireless headset for underwater streaming audio and live coaching. Whether you are a swimmer or non-swimmer, Zygo is going to revolutionize all water sports with its ability to transmit sound through a specific frequency that penetrates water. Swim coaches can instruct swimmers mid-stroke while surfers, stand-up paddle boarders, crew teams, can receive real-time coaching. Sheera reveals how her past experiences playing soccer at the University of Michigan, attending law school at UCLA, and working in the world of hospitality law all lead her to the creation of Zygo. As a non-swimmer who wanted to dabble in the world of triathlon, like Fit Crazie Christine, she was lost when it came to finding the right training groups to learn to swim. Sheera talked about how she created her own swim groups rather than attend intimidating Masters groups or take water aerobics classes with “older” populations. She further explains how she wanted to create “the Peloton for swimming” with Zygo and give people the ability to listen to podcasts and music as well as receive live and recorded coaching. Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone

Episode 108 - President KJ Fuery & Vice President Terry Matthews of Rugby New Jersey

  “...work together...work on yourself first”

“What can I do as a player to make my team better...my teammates better...make everything better?”

“Rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the country.”

Rugby New Jersey - Mission Statement: The goals of Rugby New Jersey are to promote, develop, support and increase the number of youth and High School rugby players in the State of New Jersey via a professionally run centralized administration structure.

In Episode 108, the Two Fit Crazies have a fantastic conversation with KJ Fuery and Terry Matthews, two amazingly passionate advocates for the sport of Rugby! Under the auspices of USA RUGBY, they are spearheading RUGBY New Jersey youth programs across the state. As the fastest growing team sport in the country, Rugby is not the rough, contact sport that is only for extreme athletes that people have been misled to believe. Terry and KJ talk about the ethos of Rugby and the awesome benefits that youth Rugby programs bring to not only kids, but also their parents. KJ and Terry discuss the emphasis that Rugby places on player accountability, the commitment that is expected both on and off the field, and the responsibility to values and character above all else. Did you know that all youth Rugby leagues, whether flag or contact, consist of a post-game meal provided by the home team so that players, parents, and coaches from both teams learn and practice respect for one another? KJ and Terry are out to make a difference in the lives of children across the state of New Jersey and beyond through the sport of Rugby! Reach out to them if you are interested in bringing Rugby to your community!

Kindra Hall - Professional Storyteller/Keynote Speaker/Mother & Wife/Author: Stories That Stick - Episode 106

Two Fit Crazies and a Microphone

Episode 106 - Kindra Hall - Professional Storyteller/Keynote Speaker/Mother & Wife/Author: Stories That Stick (Pre-Order your book at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Indie Book, etc.…)

“I didn’t recognize storytelling as a talent; it was something I just did.”  “I have always kind of been the “Gonzo.” What am I?”  “...all these little things...moments in my life have value...significance… I can do this!  -Kindra Hall

In Episode 106, The Two Fit Crazies are captivated by the amazingly talented Kindra Hall. After Christine met Kindra and listened to her deliver an extremely poignant and inspirational keynote address to thousands of fitness professionals at the Orangetheory Fitness Summit in early 2019, she knew that Kindra was a diamond in the rough! Kindra, who is a professional storyteller, keynote speaker, author, mother, and wife, first made her storytelling debut in 5th grade when she began recounting the story of The Giant’s Big Toe in front of her fellow elementary school students.  Kindra then reveals her own “story” about how storytelling leads her to take part in the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee, try out for the Concordia University, Wisconsin talent show, begin keynote speaking, and eventually write Stories That Stick! Kindra also discusses the process and the purpose of storytelling and how it can play an intricate part in successfully building, branding, and marketing any business or foster more meaningful relationships. Kindra admits that, like others, her road to  success has been paved with risk, faith and “straight-up hustle,” but by keeping an “audience forward” mindset, delivering a clear message, and accepting that you must  embrace trial and error, you will achieve your goals. Get your paper and pencils ready and let’s “flex your empathy muscles!” What is your story?

After attending a dance academy in Amsterdam as a child and later earning a degree in Art/Theatre History from the University of Amsterdam, Elian shares how her love for movement led her to seek a career in dance. Elian talks about the impact that fitness icons such as Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons inspired her to become certified to teach  fitness, but as Elian delves into her own journey of self-discovery, she discusses how  losing both of her parents and moving to the U.S. for an short-lived marriage, lead  her to “hit rock bottom.” Surprisingly, there was a time when all that Elian owned was what she carried in her backpack and the “things” she took to mask her pain.  Elian reveals how her love for fitness saved her life and inspired her to create Better Body Basics, her fitness studio, outside of Dallas, Texas. In addition, Elian now serves as a teacher at the Addiction Campus of America where she infuses mindful and movement practices to patients who are fighting to overcome addiction. Episode 100 - Jesse Itlzer – Entrepreneur/Author/Endurance Athlete

New York Times Best-Selling Author, Living With a Seal & Living With Monks

Owner, NBA Atlanta Hawks

Cofounder, Marquis Jets & Former Partner, Zico Coconut Water

“Get your feet in the door and then figure it out! Ride the momentum!”

“Welcome the unknown and learn from it!”  -Jesse Itzler

Happy 100th Episode/Birthday/Anniversary! We f’ing made it!

In this episode, the Two Fit Crazies go BIG as they welcome the AMAZING Jesse Itzler! Jesse joins the best “party” in the world to shed some light on how to build your “life’s resume.” Through Jesse’s ability to think BACKWARDS, he then was able to “write the end of the movie...but then you just have to write the script.” This seemed to work for Jesse Itzler since he first made a name for himself as a rapper on MTV in the 1990’s. Since then, Jesse went on to write the theme song for the New York Knicks, found Marquis Jets, own Zico Coconut Water, and even own the Atlanta Hawks. Although Jesse’s “life resume” is super impressive, Jesse is someone who “walks the walk.” He is a true giver and believes in the power of relationships, but he also believes that, at the end of the day, we all want the same thing: “we want to feel good!”

In this episode, Jesse shares his insight on the importance of fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness as it relates to happiness and success. Even after living with David Goggins for a month and then living with monks, Jesse continues to crave new experiences. He has created events, or “Experiences,” for others to quit the mundane and invest in themselves. Climb mountains, camp in the wilderness, and BUILD THAT LIFE RESUME!  Hear more from the AWESOME Jesse Itzler and find out about how to register for an upcoming event or workshop on Episode 100!

“Why did it happen...and why did I live?”

“...Turn your burners on and fire-up the human spirit!”

-Matt Long

In Episode 99, the Two Fit Crazies are left speechless from the most amazingly inspirational story of one man’s battle for survival after being hit by a 40-ton bus on the streets of New York City at 5:30AM on December 22nd, 2005. With a 1% chance for survival even after receiving over 68 units of blood, Matt Long was not about to give up. As a NYC firefighter, triathlete, marathoner, and IRONMAN at the time of the accident, Matt discusses how his elite fitness level “literally” saved his life. Although Matt champions an “I WILL” attitude, he also shares what it was like to wish his mother had prayed for him to die instead of having to endure the slow and painful process of rehabilitating a body that was practically sliced in two. Unbelievably, Matt not only survived the day he and his bicycle were crushed beneath the 10” space between a charter bus and the asphalt, but also recalls the mental journey to recovery! After more than 40 operations and years of rehabilitation, Matt has since returned to the New York City Marathon, IRONMAN Lake Placid, cycling, and even holds 8 world records for the indoor rower! Matt also discuss his inspirational book, The Long Run, as well as his love for public speaking engagements and why he decided to be a franchisee for Orangetheory Fitness. Prepare to be inspired!

Roberta Groner - World Class Runner/Full Time Nurse/Mother of Three - Episode 96

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone Podcast

Episode 96 – Roberta Groner – World Class Runner – Full Time Nurse – Mother of 3

In Episode 96 the Fit Crazies have the honor of rapping with the ridiculously fast and remarkably humble Super Mom, Roberta Groner, age 41, of Randolph, NJ. Literally, just 2 hours off the plane home, Roberta gives us the low down on her phenomenal, news making 2:29:06, 5th place performance against a world class field at the Rotterdam Marathon.

To put it simply, Roberta has a story for the ages. After competitive high school and, albeit shortened, collegiate careers, running went away. Roberta spent the next decade building her career in nursing and starting a family. But a flame was rekindled after joining some office cohorts and running the Pittsburg Half Marathon just 10 years ago. This led to a marathon in Chicago and an impressive 3-hour 12-minute (3:12) debut. But she was just getting started, a Sub 3 hour run in her second marathon was followed by races in the 2:40’s and then a true burst onto the scene with her 2:37 victory at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in 2016. Just Flying!!!!

All of this, along with a 2:30:38, 3rd place finish at the California International Marathon in 2017 has stamped Roberta’s place among the nation’s and world’s elites.

In fact, we’d bet that if the 41-year-old, full time nurse, divorced mother of three had rubbed a lamp and was granted running wishes, Roberta probably would have sold herself short in what she wished for.

What’s it like to run a 2:29 and an IAAF/Olympic Standard?

At 41 years of age, while still working full time and a divorced mother of three, how does she fit it all in?

What are the differences in training blocks as she continues to grow as a runner?

What is it like working with a new coach in Steve Magness?

Do her boys know how cool their mom is?

What are her nutrition and recovery routines like?

What is her advice for and/or secret to success?

And most importantly; What’s Next???? #KFG

Whatever your role in athletics or fitness or life, Roberta’s story is not to be missed!

Get Your Inspiration Here, In Episode 96!

Let’s Roll!

“...fitness is the stepping stone toward the other result.”  “...physical therapy...the end goal is to be an athlete again, not just rehab…”  -Dr. Sebastian Gonzales

In Episode 95 of Two Fit Crazies & a Microphone podcast, we had a blast talking with Dr. Sebastian Gonzales of Huntington Beach, California. Dr. Gonzales, an accomplished Sports Chiropractor and Human Movement Specialist, shares how his experiences rehabilitating childhood injuries lead him to re-evaluate the goals of physical therapy. Dr. Gonzales believes that we first need to examine why we believe we are injured or why we believe we “can’t” do something. Only then, we can begin to “unravel the yarn” and work towards standing and lasting results.  Dr. Gonzales also offers a unique perspective on the state of therapy and the way in which you should view rehabilitating injuries. Dr. Gonzales also gives out some awesome tips from his latest book, I Will Beat Back Pain as well as awesome advice from his podcast, RESTORING HUMAN MOVEMENT!
